Free Books for Florida Children!

We have great news for our Osceola Reads family and children in grades K-5 from all over the state! Speaker Chris Sprowls challenged the Florida House of Representatives to ensure every child has the tools, including free books, they need to read on grade level. In February, Representative Dana Trabulsy filed HB 3, along with support from our own State Representative Fred Hawkins, and created the New Worlds Reading Initiative! Here’s what families can expect with this new bill:

  • Books delivered monthly to the homes of K-5 students who are reading below grade-level
  • A support structure to assist parents in helping their children learn to read
  • FREE access to the Age of Learning online digital library of thousands of books

Having books at home can help your little readers have a love for learning. Regardless of age, income, or reading level, Floridians can take advantage of this initiative from now until December 31, 2021. Here’s how to sign up:

  1. Visit ReadingIQ.com
  2. Create your free account
  3. Select your child’s reading level
  4. Begin reading!

Students can start selecting books at their current reading level and track their progress along the way. Reading early can have some lifelong benefits, and we want to make sure our children are on track for success. For those busier days when parents may not have time to sit and read with their child, the ReadingIQ library also has a feature that reads the books in its library to the child. Reading aloud with your child is so important, and this tool will help when your child wants to do some more independent reading. Get started with reading, and be sure to check out more of what Osceola Reads has to offer on our Parent Resources Page.
